CAPTURE 3D presents GOM Scan 1 to the North American market. The company says this portable scanner delivers affordability and high precision to industrial scanning.
GOM GmbH is under the ZEISS corporate umbrella, a name associated with top quality optical technology for generations. CAPTURE 3D says the combination of affordability and quality makes it an ideal scanner for small industrial engineering teams, healthcare, museums or serious hobbyists.
Typical uses for the GOM Scan 1 include creating a digital file for 3D printing, reverse engineering, quality control, 3D modeling, education and more fields where a more expensive scanner might not be considered.
This portable scanner includes built-in software. GOM Inspect is 3D inspection software that can quickly capture, visualize and analyze 3D measurement data in the same workflow. The company says GOM Inspect delivers a comprehensive 3D measurement experience offering practical advantages. Mesh editing capabilities allow users to smooth, thin and refine polygon meshes. The software can also fill holes and extract curvature lines, providing accurate meshing in support of part reproduction, 3D model generation and other engineering tasks.
The software uses a smart polygonization routine, which the company says allows for highly detailed meshes in small file sizes. It imports and aligns CAD and mesh files to create surface comparisons and dimensional inspections and to generate reports. The data can be exported as STL, G3D, POL and other standard formats.
GOM Scan 1 uses noncontact blue light technology to capture detailed full-field data with narrowband blue light recorded by two stereoscopic cameras. CAPTURE 3D says the light source enables short measuring times as well as filters out interfering ambient light during data acquisition. Sensors can recognize and compensate for changing ambient conditions during the shoot. The software constantly monitors calibration status, transformation accuracy, environmental changes and part movements.
The GOM Scan 1 weighs 2.5 kg (5.5 pounds). It includes a travel case. Accessory options include a desk stand and an automated rotation table. The GOM Scan 1 is offered with three measuring volumes: 100, 200 and 400 mm field of view.
The CAPTURE 3D GOM Scan 1 is available now directly from CAPTURE 3D.
