WASP unveils a new addition to its HDP (High-Definition Pellet) line. This latest innovation increases the maximum printing volume and introduces a new kinematic system.
POWER WASP 45 HDP is the new large-scale FGF 3D printer designed to print at 45 degrees, allowing for creation of complex, large-sized components without need for supports and with minimal shrinkage.
Creating Complex Geometries With Retractions
POWER WASP 45 HDP enables the creation of highly complex pieces using technical materials.
The machine features a completely isolated environment that enables the creation of large pieces in high definition up to 2 m in length. Its size and ability to print complex geometries make it a tool for the nautical and manufacturing sector allowing the creation of pieces such as hulls, dashboards, furniture, statues, artistic installations, and large size pieces for specialized industries. It’s compatible with a range of technical and recycled materials, including ABS, PLA, PETG, PP, and ASA.
In particular, the machine can use loaded materials, such as ABS-GF, to increase strength and stiffness, improve dimensional stability, and enhance heat resistance.
Customized Technical Prints for Nautical Sector
The development of the POWER WASP 45 HDP was driven by the nautical sector’s demand for a technology capable of creating large-scale, customized pieces with complex geometries using technical loaded materials. Ferretti Yachts, an Italian brand specializing in the construction of high-end motor yachts, became the first customer to integrate the new 3D printer into their facility, enabling autonomous production. Since early 2024, ColorYacht, a provider of interior furnishings for Ferretti Yacht, utilizes three POWER WASP 45 HDP for the creations of hatch, folding drawers, dashboards, seat supports and other customized parts. The printed components are then sanded, filled, and finished.
3D Printing for Sailing
The Polimi Sailing Team collaborated with WASP to create a hull for the Sumoth Challenge, a European competition promoting sustainable sailing boats. Using POWER WASP 45 HDP, the team printed the female mold directly, eliminating the traditional sacrificial model.
With support from 50 students, the prototype, Febe, won the race, showcasing the effectiveness of these solutions and the role of 3D printing in advancing sustainable practices in the nautical industry.
